ASB Midwest 2010

After shooting the latest collection from Ethnikroots and Eric Salud's uberly romantic proposal session, I headed up north to Shawano, WI with Johan from WheelSTO to check out All Star Bash Midwest. I was eternally grateful that Johan offered to drive because after shooting photos and video for three days straight (especially in the heat), I was dead tired on the way home.

Nevertheless, while I was there, it was AWESOME. I was a little reluctant at first to step out onto the track to snap photos after seeing a few cars run off into the grass, but my fear-o-death soon gave way to excitement. I had never shot an official drift event before, so I was definitely nervous as to how everything would come out...and if I could actually pull off these photos with a 3.0fps camera. The last (and only) snaps I took of drift cars in action were random ones through a fence with my old Canon 40D (6.5fps) and 70-200L f/2.8 IS which I miss dearly. Now, I went in armed with my 5D Mark II and a 200L f/2.8. Note the non-IS factor here. But regardless, everything seemed to turn out better than I expected.

I was so excited to get these photos and video out that I had to just make a quick and dirty edit for you guys to check out ASAP. Anyway, I wish I had the guts to try my hand at the drifting world...but I think I'll have to stick to driving straight forward on the track, haha. Props to all the drivers for getting their cars together for the event and for some SICK runs.
